Tell us a bit about yourself…
I’ve been working for Scissor Paper Stone for just over a year. My role is to expand the company in the US as well as take orders and work with clients. It is a challenge as we are new to the US and there is a lot of competition but I am confident it will be a success.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
I like the challenge of getting the word out about the company. It is always a thrill to see us get press or a blog mention. I also enjoy working with the clients and helping them with their orders. It’s always a pleasure to hear from satisfied clients.
What made you want to work with wedding stationery?
The wedding industry is great to work in as you get the opportunity to meet people as they are going through one of the most exciting times of their lives. Also, I really enjoy working with my family in this business.
What advice would you give to brides ordering their invitations?
Pick a design and style that you like. Lots of people get lots of input on their invitations but at the end of the day it is your day so go with a choice that makes you happy.
What do you think will be a popular invitation design next year?
Here in the US I am finding that our snapshot range is really popular. Having a personal photograph on your stationery really gives your invites a nice personal touch.

What are your plans for the future?
I want to grow the US side of the business so that it becomes as well known here as we are in the UK. It is an exciting prospect and very attainable.
Apart from Scissor Paper Stone, what do you do?
Well I live in New York city so there is always something to do but my favorite thing is going to the greenmarket with my girlfriend and taking it all in. I also love to travel and walking my dog Olive. I think she is a prime candidate to become the Scissor Paper Stone mascot:)
Since our launch in 2004, Scissor Paper Stone’s goal has been to design and produce contemporary and modern wedding invitations for fabulous weddings. Bespoke quality for everyone, but within budget, we print everything to order so colours, typefaces, paper, images and layout can all be tweaked to the bride and groom’s taste. And we have just designed the invitations and stationery for our 4000th wedding – quite an achievement! But we won’t rest on our laurels, and will be pushing forward plans in 2010 for a budget range, printing on fully recycled paper, and creating some new designs. Thanks to everyone who has made the last 6 years so enjoyable, both our staff and customers. And here’s to another 6 years!
And it certainly has. Here’s the view from the Scissor Paper Stone studio this morning. Its incredibly pretty, but playing havoc with deliveries and driving into work. Still, it will all be grey slush before we know it, so we should appreciate this crisp, white scene while we can. Good luck to those brides who’s weddings are in early January – lets hope the gritters can keep the roads clear for you and your guests. I bet the wedding photos will be gorgeous though.

As of today we’ll be adding all our blog posts to our Facebook fan page so make sure you check us out and add us to your favs or followus. Many thanks!
Just to remind everyone, we are closing for the Christmas period from 24 December and will reopen in the New Year on January 4th 2010. We’d like to take this opportunity to wish all the couples we have worked with a very Merry Christmas, and we’re looking forward to our 2010 weddings and producing more contemporary invitations for fabulous weddings!

Here at Scissor Paper Stone we are committed to doing our bit for the environment. As a stationery company we obviously use a lot of a paper, but everything we use is FSC (The Forest Stewardship Council) approved pulp. That means the paper comes from sustainable forests, so for every tree that is cut down, another is planted. We try and recycle as much of our waste as possible, and are conscious of keeping our energy consumption and carbon footprint at a minimum.

If the environment is important to you, there are many things you can do to reduce your footprint when planning your wedding. Reduce the amount of paper you send out – if you choose one of our double-sided wedding invitation postcards we can print the invitation on the front and the guest information on the reverse. And if you want to email Save the Dates but you want them to match your wedding invitation we can design an e-save the date which can be emailed but will match the rest of your stationery.

Look for bridal gowns that are made with natural fibers, such as cotton or silk or choose a vintage or pre-owned style. Socially conscious couples should buy diamond rings using conflict free diamonds, or many jewelers can design your wedding and engagement rings from recycled gold. Take in your old jewellery and they can melt down the precious metals and use the stones in a more contemporary design. Not only will this be environmentally friendly but the rings will have true meanings to you. Decorate your venue using flowers that are in season so they won’t have been flown in from more tropical climates, and give guests a renewable wedding favor, such as a packet of flower seeds. Get suppliers to source locally and organically produced food and drink, and if your guests can’t stay overnight at your venue, organise mini-buses to cut down on car journeys. Choose a wedding list from a garden centre, or get guests to plant a tree or give money to charity or a carbon offset programme. And reduce your airmiles by honeymooning at home. It can still be truly special by booking a gorgeous boutique hotel. When my husband and I married, we honeymooned in Devon at a Landmark Trust cottage in the grounds of a stately home. It wasn’t grand or “a trip of a lifetime”, but it was a truly unique, personal and romantic experience and supported a charity which maintains old buildings and our heritage.

Just been updating our testimonial pages with some recent comments from brides and grooms and thought I’d share a few with you here. Thanks everyone for taking the time to write – its great to hear what you think and to know we’re doing a good job.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for our invitations!! We love them so does everyone else!! They are really special. We will certainly recommend you to our friends who are yet to get married!!

Thank you so much for all your work and assistance with our stationery, we are really really pleased with it all. Thank you for being so responsive and so quick with all our proofs as well, which was great. I am sure you have hundreds of nervous, stressed brides to deal with every week but it was great that you were able to turn everything around for us so quickly. I shall certainly be recommending you to friends of mine who are getting married next year and we shall be in touch after our honeymoon to order some thank you cards from you.
Anna Montes – Istock – September 2009

Tell us a bit about yourself…
I’ve been working for Scissor Paper Stone now for over 4 years. My role is liasing with the customers, helping them choose what invitation design is best for them, and co-ordinating our printers, suppliers and all the people that help make up the final stationery. Its challenging as we often have quite a few weddings at the same time, especially through the Summer.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
I love getting emails from satisfied customers and sometimes they send us photos of the day itself. Because most of our business is done online or by phone, we don’t often get to see what our brides and grooms look like – so its nice to put a face to a name. And I love packaging up the finished stationery to go to a bride. When they’ve ordered a whole package of invitations and reception items, it all looks so great together with the co-ordinating designs and colours. We wrap everything in tissue and ribbon so it arrives in perfect condition. I’m also quite nimble-fingered so I like doing all the handwork on the stationery – like tieing ribbons around our booklet invitations and making our tissue-lined wallets.

What made you want to work with wedding stationery?
I’ve always been quite crafty and used to produce my own jewelery. A friend introduced me to Wendy who designs the stationery, and I haven’t looked back since! A wedding is often the happiest day of someone’s life, and its wonderful to be involved with making that happen. Its great that we can make just one part of the wedding planning less stressful and being flexible with our designs so each bride and groom can have a real say in what their invitation looks like.
What advice would you give to brides ordering their invitations?
The most obvious is to order well in advance of the big day. As all our invitations are printed to order, it can take up to 3 weeks for invitations to be finished. And before that the client has to choose what they want, send us all the copy and make any changes. So the sooner it is ordered, the less stressed they’ll be about deadlines, and they can take their time getting the details right, like checking all their copy. We’ve had people put the wrong time, the wrong postcode, even the wrong spelling of the groom’s parents who are hosting the wedding!
What do you think will be a popular invitation design next year?
Monochromes are really in at the moment, with strong silouhettes and graphic Black and white images. Our Swirl wedding invitations and Print stationery are perfect.
And I think Vintage inspired stationery is still very popular, with designs based on vintage fabrics, and retro styling. Crystal invitations have a gorgeous lace inspired trim and our Butterfly stationery comes in lovely pale sage and pastel colours.

What are your plans for the future?
We’ve just launched Scissor Paper Stone in the USA which is really exciting, although the etiquette for getting married in the US is completely different to here – so I’m learning all the time! And we hope to help credit crunch brides by offering a non-personalised invitation range in the future. So they can still have our gorgeous designs, but at a discounted price as the invitations won’t be personalized with their names.
Apart from Scissor Paper Stone, what do you do?
I have a large and energetic family that takes up most of my spare time! We live in a converted Barn in Buckinghamshire which looks out over fields and farmland which is very relaxing after a long day.
Tell us a bit about yourself…
My name is Wendy Harrison and I started Scissor Paper Stone in 2004. I’m a graphic designer and have worked in retail and fashion for over 15 years. I design all the stationery for Scissor Paper Stone – we have 17 different designs, each in different colourways, and each of those have 14 elements to each design – ranging from save the dates and invitations to the reception items and thankyou cards. So that’s kept me quite busy!
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Obviously it’s designing! As the invitations are printed to order, our clients can make tweaks and changes so I’m always working on the designs. Sometimes customers have a bespoke request – like taking a design onto a special wedding favour, or doing something new for the reception. We’ve designed personalised seed packets, wine labels, signs, and wedding albums for clients. I love working on the Snapshot stationery range as we get to work with a personal photograph of the bride and groom. Its such a personal moment and captures their personalities perfectly and some have a great sense of humour about them.

What made you want to work with wedding stationery?
When I got married, I designed our invitations and we got so many lovely compliments, I decided to set up a business designing cool and contemporary wedding stationery. I wanted to reflect the bride and groom’s taste rather than their parents, creating invitations that discard all the old cliches. Everything is personalised so it has that bespoke quality – wether it’s the typeface, colour or image itself. My husband was already heavily involved with the wedding world running weddingvenues.com, so he helped me get an insight into modern weddings and was an invaluable source of advice and support.
What advice would you give to brides ordering their invitations?
When ordering invitations, bride and grooms should think about the look of their whole day. What style are they going for, the colours of the flowers, the cake design, the venue. The invitations don’t have to exactly co-ordinate with everything, but should complement the look.
And I always like it when the Groom has had some input into the design. It’s his big day aswell and I think its just as important that he should approve of the look.

What do you think will be a popular invitation design next year?
Nature-inspired themes are perfect for the eco-conscious bride. Birds, butterflies and floral wedding invitations are very high fashion. Our Flower Library allows brides to choose an image for their invitations that matches their own flowers – its such an easy way to co-ordinate the day.
What are your plans for the future?
I’d like to introduce some new designs to the ranges we already have on offer. Often my inspiration comes from what our customers ask for and trends in fashion and interiors. It will be great to add more elements to each design too – we’ve just introduced guest books and photo albums so brides can have them to match their invitations.
Apart from Scissor Paper Stone, what do you do?
I love walking on the beach with my husband and dog. I also love traveling and shopping – like every girl! Going to cities abroad is really inspiring – reading their magazines, browsing the shops, seeing different styles and trends. Its useful to have a global perspective, especially as the UK is one of the front-runners in new trends and fashions – its great to keep on top of whats going on elsewhere.
